A flashlight is a beacon of sorts, but the “beacon” in Beaconsfield comes from Benjamin Disraeli’s coat of arms which was modified slightly and accepted officially as the City’s own. Beacons in the old days were torches put in iron stands and placed on castle ramparts to warn ships at sea of dangerous rocks.
